ACTS Counselling Centre

This training centre for counsellors in the Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy program is located in the Boundary View Plaza (Ste 230; stairs to right of restaurant) on the corner of Hastings and Boundary and a few minutes from both the freeway and the Kootenay Loop bus terminal. It is located in the offices of Burnaby Counselling Group, #230 – 3701 Hastings St., Burnaby, BC V5C 2H6.

Counselling is the process through which an individual, couple, child, or family can:

  • Develop an understanding of their situation;
  • Assess possible areas of personal and interpersonal growth and change;
  • Develop unused or under-used potential including new attitudes and methods of functioning;
  • Implement those attitudes, insights and strategies;
  • Experience the results and become more effective;

The Centre Offers Family Counselling.

For families who experience problems and require help in understanding the patterns of communicating and relating within their family structure. Therapy is directed at changing patterns of interaction and reinforcing healthy family relationships, while maintaining a sense of identity as separate individuals of worth.

The Centre Offers Individual Counselling (Personal Adjustment and Growth).

For individual adults and adolescents who need help managing their problems in living more effectively and/or finding meaning in their personal life and situations.

The Centre Offers Play Therapy.

For children who experience a variety of difficulties including adjustments, fears, anxiety, low self esteem.

About the Counsellors:

All counsellors are working in Graduate Studies towards their Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. Counsellors have come from various walks of life with a common purpose to help promote healing in the lives of others. They are directly supervised by faculty of ACTS so that counselling provided is appropriate to the needs of those being counselled. Supervision is provided by Linda Medaris MC, RCC, AAMFT Approved Supervisor.

Due to the nature of a practicum site, some clients may not be appropriate for a training facility, and therefore, may be referred to a more appropriate agency.

Referrals:

People are referred by schools, agencies, doctors, or by themselves.

Fees:

As this is a training centre, a nominal fee of $20 to $30 is charged. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds.

Counselling is provided on Mondays from January to May and throughout the week from April to December.
