Church Planting Leadership Courses (CPL)

CPL 601 - Church Planting Leadership Issues (3 hrs.) This course takes the planter, existing pastor, or mother church pastor on a journey through the NT establishing the foundational elements that qualify a plant to be a “church” plant and not just a new sociological or cultural entity. It locates and articulates biblical understandings of such things as the local church’s mission and design, the role of the Holy Spirit and faith, the evangelism and equipping imperatives assigned to the church, functional body life, and correlates these to the realities in an emerging fledgling church. |
|
CPL 602 - Church Planting Leadership Issues (3 hrs.) The bias of this course is praxis. It offers instruction in demographic research, community exegesis, and matching the shape of the emerging church to the community in which it will be planted. It investigates proven means of developing a small core of believers into a fully developed church, itself capable of planting new churches. It provides practical teaching in the area of leadership development in a church plant, nurturing stewardship in its many forms, and structuring a new church for effective ministry. The course explores various church planting models (i.e., classic daughtering, satellite, house churches). The "classroom" will be the actual settings in which churches are being planted; the instructors will include actual planters. Students will physically visit the sites where a diverse array of churches are being planted in response to contextual issues. |

CPL 603 - Church Planters Assessment (2 hrs.) OPTION 1: February 26-March 2, 2007 - (Reading Week) Canadian Church Planters Assessment Centre (http://www.ccpac.net) is an intensive 40-hour process which places participants into simulations involving the many facets of planting a church. Trained assessors observe and chronicle behaviors, actions, and attitudes, and these results form the basis for a recommendation for or against a primary leadership role in church planting. OPTION 2: Profile Assessment System (PAS) is a behavior evaluation that looks at thirteen characteristics common to successful church planters. Developed by Charles Ridley this 4-5 hour assessment looks an individual's existing behaviors and then rates them against established norms. A report is written from this interview outlining the level of strength in each area. The individual will be able to see the areas that qualify, disqualify or conditionally qualify them as a potential planter. Done under the supervision of the Canadian Assessment Coordinating Team (CACT), this assessment forms part of the process of identifying potential planters and clarifying areas of strength and weakness for them. Prerequisite: Denominational Endorsement |

CPL 604 - Church Planting Strategies (2 hrs.) Attend the Church Planting Summit (Boot Camp), a 30-hour process that leads church planters and key lay leaders to develop a comprehensive strategic plan for their proposed plant. This strategic plan includes vision, target group, evangelism, core group development, financial plan, preparation for the launch day, worship, small group ministry, a track for recruiting, equipping and empowering leaders, an overall time-line, and lay mobilization. The Summit is a ministry of the BC Church Planting Catalyzers group. Prerequisite: Denominational Endorsement and CPL 603 |
